HIV transmission is still a major concern all over the world, and Thailand is no exception. But there are ways that we can protect ourselves and reduce the spread of HIV with PrEP & PEP. At hugsa medical in Chiang Mai, we provide comprehensive services to help you take steps towards prevention. Let’s explore how PrEP & PEP can make a difference.

What is PrEP?
PrEP stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis. It’s an affordable and effective way to prevent someone from becoming infected by HIV through sexual contact or injection drug use. PrEP involves taking a daily pill that contains two medications (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and emtricitabine). It works by preventing HIV from taking hold inside the body if it does enter through contact with HIV-infected blood or other bodily fluids.
At hugsa medical, we provide confidential services for people who may be at risk for acquiring HIV or other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Our team will evaluate your health history, conduct tests to identify any existing infections, and work closely with you to determine which prevention strategies are best suited for your needs. We offer free condoms as well as access to PrEP prescriptions and monthly follow-ups to ensure that you remain healthy while using PrEP medication.
What is PEP?
PEP stands for post-exposure prophylaxis. PEP involves taking antiretroviral medications after being exposed to HIV through sexual contact or injection drug use in order to reduce the risk of infection. It works by interfering with the virus’ ability to replicate itself before it has had time take hold inside the body. It must be started within 72 hours of exposure in order to be effective and should be taken continuously for 28 days.
At hugsa medical, we understand how important it is to act quickly when someone has been exposed to HIV in order to reduce their risk of infection. We offer urgent care appointments so that individuals who have been exposed can get started on treatment within 24 hours of exposure if needed. Our team also provides counseling about safer sex practices and advice about getting tested regularly so that any potential exposures can be identified early on and treated promptly if necessary.
